Amber with their warm golden hues and ancient origins, have captivated human fascination for millennia. These enchanting stones, often referred to as "the gold of the sea," are not crystals in the traditional sense but rather fossilized tree resin that has hardened over millions of years.

Amber forms from the resin of ancient trees, typically conifers, that lived millions of years ago. This resin would drip and ooze from tree trunks, capturing leaves, insects, and other organic materials. Over time, this sticky substance would harden and fossilize, transforming into the beautiful amber we see today. The oldest known amber dates back around 320 million years, but most commercially available amber is between 30 to 90 million years old.

Amber varies in colour from pale yellow to deep orange and even brown. Its transparency can range from completely opaque to almost clear, often containing fascinating inclusions of prehistoric flora and fauna. These inclusions not only add to the beauty of amber but also provide valuable insights into the ancient ecosystems where these resins formed.

Amber is cherished not only for its beauty but also for its purported metaphysical properties. It is often associated with healing, protection, and purification. Many believe that amber has the ability to draw out negative energy and cleanse the body, mind, and spirit. It is also thought to bring good luck and is often used in jewellery for its protective qualities.
